Monique D. Chrétien - Animal Behaviorist

I am fortunate enough to have accumulated 30+ years of experience in the animal field through various jobs and education. During those 30+ years, I have worked with all types of animals from livestock, to domestic animals, to exotic animals and pocket pets.  I have taught environmental education classes to children and the public, given lectures, written articles about animal behavior and performed agility demonstrations at animal related charity events.  I have been helping pet dogs and cats with behavior problems since 1999 which has allowed me the pleasure of working with and training under some of the most well-known veterinary behaviorists in New England.  I have taught private and group dog training classes for many years in beginner and intermediate manners, agility for fun and AKC preparation (and testing).  Additionally, I have gained valuable experience as a dog trainer in a board & train program which has really helped me hone my dog training skills.  I’ve also worked as a veterinary technician for many years and have spent time volunteering for many non-profit animal organizations such as the MSPCA, Salem Animal Rescue League, Lucky Horse Equine Rescue and the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, just to name a few.  I have been riding horses for competition and pleasure most of my life.  I have a strong interest in animal cognition and intelligence research and a huge passion for environmental enrichment for pets and captive animals.

I call myself an animal behaviorist because I hold a Master of Science in Applied Animal Behavior & Animal Welfare. I also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and an Associate of Science in Animal Health Technology.  I am an Associate Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.  I am working towards becoming fully certified as a dog behavior and cat behavior consultant through the IAABC.  I am a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and an Associate Member of the Dog Division of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.  I am also a former AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Evaluator, Canine Good Citizen Test Evaluator and member of The Cat Writer's Association.   I attend animal behavior and dog training continuing education events often and keep up with current research and changes in the behavior and dog training fields.
